Sr. Instrument Technician

To ensure that the performance and availability of instrument equipment meets the standards required to achieve safety, production and environmental targets, to execute all activities safely and efficiently to agreed work plans, safety management system requirements and best working practices.

Job Description:

Position title : Sr. Instrument Technician

Position status  : LN

Position reports to : Instrument Supervisor

Department : Maintenance

Rotation pattern : 28/28 or 14/14

Duties and responsibilities

  • Mentor and supervise instrument technicians on inspection of the equipment on a daily basis and carries out maintenance, repair, calibration and functional tests on a variety of instruments, gauges, automatic measuring device, instrument sensing control devices, instrument loops, etc. in accordance with company standards, codes and practices. 
  • Performs preventive and routine maintenance on all instrument equipment to ensure proper operation and minimize downtime. Includes carrying out functional tests in accordance with maintenance procedures. 
  • Assist instrument supervisor in assigning jobs to respective suitable technicians and mentor execution of the same.
  • Undertakes and ensures that the Company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures are fully implemented and adhered to, so that Loss Prevention is maximized.  Reviews “hot and cold work permits” to ensure safe operational completion of instrument maintenance activities.
  • Review the spares and consumables stock availability, advice company team on further actions required for ensuring availability of a sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables. 
  • Safely handle and store company’s tools & equipment and advice the team for any required improvement plan.
  • Fill in the instrument problem records and maintenance records as per practice followed / CMMS (SAP). 
  • Participates with operations group in troubleshooting control problems and tuning instrument loops, includes training and analyzing problems that may be electronic or pneumatic related. recommends calibration to remedy situation as necessary. 
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records for all various equipment within his area of responsibility. provides information in order to update and ensure proper historical records of all maintenance activities. 
  • Carry out other similar or related duties such as comparing maintenance cost against forecasted budgets, observing safety rules and regulations, ensuring proper handover procedures at end of shift and highlighting any abnormalities encountered during his shift, providing technical training to assigned trainees as required, etc.

Qualification & Training requirements

  • HND Diploma in Instrumentation / electronics / industrial automation engineering.
  • Previous experience as senior technician is preferable.

Experience 

  • 8 years working experience in Oil and Gas instrumentation maintenance 
  • Knowledge of hydrocarbon production systems and associated hazards.
  • Fully familiar with the permit to work system and isolation procedures
  • Check and maintain sufficient spares in coordination with Work Pack Preparer for daily / 14 days’ work plans.
  • Maintain instrument tools, calibrators, simulators and equipment in a healthy and good condition. good management and distribution to the instrument technician based on job requirement.
  •  Ensure MMC (SAP) system updated with Work Order process by each technician.

  • Able to complete work history / reports to the required standard as outlined by supervisor.
  • Must have the necessary competencies in instrument discipline to carry out routine, corrective, breakdown and condition maintenance.
  • Able to carry out fault finding and installation, isolation and re-instatement of offshore equipment
  • Ability to carry out work-site inspections.
  • Able to read, interpret and mark up instrumentation technical schematic drawings to as built status.
